So it is over!
I went in there for oath at 8.10 AM and the long line through metal detector etc took me time to reach ceremony which actually started at 9 AM. We were out by 9.20 AM. Collected the certificate and left the office. Paid more cents than required for the parking meter (50c that is
).
Moral:- If your ceremony is stated in the letter as 8 AM in Milwaukee, it is actually at 9 AM. One hour is for check etc. There is absolutely no need to rush. You can go as late as 8.30 and find a parking space (parking is allowed between 8 AM and 6 PM) on downtown roads near the courthouse.
Here is the time line for N-400 if you have ever missed (How can you?)
Please note, that I did all the prepartion etc by myself for me and the whole family. No lawyer was ever involved. Discussion groups and forums etc helped a lot!
Nebraska svc center, DO - Milwaukee, WI
N-400 Sent : Dec 29, 2003 (two different checks for fee and FP)
PD : Jan 3, 2004
FP : Feb 2004 (date, do not remember)
Interview : March 23, 2004
Oath (for wife): May 17, 2004 (total 5 months!)
Oath (me) : July 15, 2004 (Today)
Wife applied passport : 19th May 2004
Wife's Passport received: June 14 2004 (or around)
If you want to know my entire time line with INS, here it is:
August, 1992: F-1 Visa at Bombay Consulate (Valid till 97)
Started collecting information about EB-1 category since 1995
OPT received one day before F-1 expired - 11/1997 - 11/98 (Texas Center)
The following is from Vermont center
GC Applied from MD while on OPT in EB-1 Category: 12/97 (month after finding the job. Employer did not pay the fee - not a cent but willingly signed all papers without any questions)
140 approved - May 98 (5 months in total for I-140)
485 filed - May 98 (3 weeks after 140 approved)
485 apporved - Feb 99 (9 months after 140 approval)
Plastic GC received - March 99 (3 weeks after passport stamping.)
Several upsets in between - like no birth certificate, hefty fees from pocket, excruciating painfull waiting for I-140 etc - but so far the immigration gods have been good to us. May be the Gaurdian Angel has been doing overtime :-0
Finally, I have benefited immensely from this forum and from everyone - nobody is excluded. Please feel free to ask me anything and from now I will post only occasionally. If you want to send me a personal message, it should be at dr_taz_98@yahoo.com and the reply would be in two days.
Best of luck everybody and have a great weekend. Regards.
Special thanks for putting up with my paranoid postings !
