Title: Legal vs Illegal Immigrants, Would you prefer to have legal or illegal immigrants in the US and others left to your imagination.

Dear Editor:

Legal aliens who have been in this country anywhere from 5-13 years are struggling to get the greencard’s because of the extraordinary delays imposed by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services. If the legal immigrant loses his/her job during this long wait they have to return back to their country the next day. During this time the legals find it difficult to get loans, get higher education, promotions and so on. These folks have been the cause for the US to be a leader in the world in several fields.

However illegals seem to have the trump card with the looming elections. The new proposal by White house is very similar to having a H-1 visa (like the legals) which can be extended up to 6 years and then the person is eligible for a Greencard. So the message seems to be come to the US illegally, find a job and you will be guaranteed a GC. What is worst is that the already overstretched US Citizenship and Immigration Services will be taxed more in processing these illegals while the wait for the legals continues to increase.

The legal folks have tried their best to contact congresspeople/senators through out the country to try to reduce the backlogs. Finally out of frustration the community of immigrationportal.com, a community of more than 70,000 folks have filed a law suit against the DHS and USCIS to take action to approve Green cards quickly. We hope that this opens the eye of the USCIS and the Bush administrations promise to reduce the immigration backlogs to less than 6 months.

c) A Public law 106-313 that was passed by the congress on Sep 28, 2000 to reduce the backlogs has not been adhered until today. You can view this law by going to http://thomas.loc.gov/home/c106query.html and putting in S.2586 in the bill number field. Here is the section that mentions the immigration backlogs.
SEC. 4. IMMIGRATION SERVICES AND INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT ACCOUNT.
(a) AUTHORITY OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL- The Attorney General shall take such measures as may be necessary to--
(1) reduce the backlog in the processing of immigration benefit applications, with the objective of the total elimination of the backlog not later than one year after the date of enactment of this Act;
(2) make such other improvements in the processing of immigration benefit applications as may be necessary to ensure that a backlog does not develop after such date; and
(3) make such improvements in infrastructure as may be necessary to effectively provide immigration services.

media list

I found a list of 1700 email addresses and physical addresses for the media through out the US. I have mailed the lawsuit story to about 300 + so far since yesterday. It is tedious because yahoo allows only emails to be sent to limited number of people per hour.

Attached is the list. So if others could help spread the word that would be very helpful.

Re: media list

I think that's a very great idea. I will join and send the emails.
Thanks for your efforts,
