I am from The united arab emirates, not many people here apply for the Lottery and there are less than 5000 people in the USA from the UAE and most are there for school

does the low rate of immigration from my country increase my chances of winning?

in 2012 only 98 win green cards and only around 5000 or less entered.

I'm in Dubai at the moment (I come here at least 3-4 times a year) so I'm curious as to why anyone living in the UAE would want to emigrate to America.

And yes countries with low rates of immigration (like mine) are the ones the DV Lottery focuses on.

Each year is different. Quotas depend on how many people emigrated from a given country in the past years. It seems like there 5360 entries for DV2012 and 98 were selected, almost 2 percent chance.

A lot of countries are around 1-2 percent, so it does not matter a whole lot unless you are from a country with a million entries, then it's really hard to win. What's more important is that your country has a low quota, so you have to act fast in case you win.

and the number of citizens from my country in the US is very VERY low, almost nonexistent, since UAE residents dont really have a reason or urge to "search for a better life".

0.0015% of the US population are from UAE Descent
