Recently I attended a free presentation on 'US citizenship aplication' process by a charity organization in our public library. One of the point it was mentioned that if it is applied through lawyer or some body authorized by US Immigration services , we get citizenship significantly faster .( 18 months vs 9months through lawyer ). I can't say that it is a sales pitch as the presenter who her self is not a lawyer associated with a charity group and authorized to apply only charging $60 for filing. so there is no significant money involved( w.r.t to the faster times ) for this process. I could n't cross verify this information from any other source ?. Does any body information on this ?. I appreciate the feedback. :)

unless you have any issues (being out of status, criminal record, arrests, etc.) DO NOT waste your money on lawyers. It will not speed things up and the process is simple enough to do on your own. Depending on where you live your naturalization could be completed in as little as 4 months.
