I dont think , you need to hire a lawyer for getting EAD . Go to your local INS office with your I 485 receipt,money order check, I 797,etc. I think you will get in couple of hours. Same case with AP too.
If it is a first time EAD/AP then you have to go thru a service center but for renewals you can just goto local office as long as you have 90 days left at least.
