Does Ombudsman's reply mean anything?

My case has been stuck since June 2004. Enventhough visas are available, since name check is not cleared,
USCIS says it can not. SO I have asked Ombudsman's office to help me if they can. I got a response saying
that the Ombudsman's office had requested USCIS for the explanation and wrote that I should get a response
with in next 45 days from USCIS
My questons is:
Does Ombudsman's reply mean anything?
Does the office has "real teeth" or is it just a paper tiger?
Please share your comments/suggestions

I think it's just paper teeth. I have got a similar reponse from the Ombudsman regarding my I-485 case which has been pending since Jan. 2004 due to FBI the name check delay which was initiated by the USCIS in Feb. 2004. The USCIS will come back explaining that they can't do nothin' because they can not proceed without the FBI clearance. FBI is a part of the Dept. of Justice and the USCIS Ombudsman is a part of Dept. of Homeland security. So I do not think his asking for explanation to USCIS will do anything to speed the name check clearance at the FBI.

are you guys sending letters to them or just sending email messages? I am about to write to them if it is at all of help. Will it hurt your case if you contact them for the case problems?

If you email him, he will respond saying "submit your query in writing including supporting documents". In my case, i included a copy of my I-485 receipt and sent him a letter explaining the delay in my case, and other identifying info (date of birth, case no, address etc.). He (his name is Mr. Khatri) responded in 2-3 weeks saying he has opened a query with USCIS. I do not see why involving an ombudsman should negatively affect one's case. that's what I did yesterday to write an letter to this guy, hope it works for me to get at least something going...

thanks for the reply.

Then, you may receive the same response. "The processing of your case has been delayed. We are currently awaiting the results of required security checks on this case."

Did anyone really get the positive/favorable response from them other than the formal automatic reply? I saw one post in "Stuck in NC" thread mentioning he/she contacted Ombudsman and got approval... Maybe his/her case was different from those who would like to have Ombudsman got invovled in getting expedition of NC and Case process...

well.. The only difference I found in the reply I got, mine was actually signed in ink rather than a "stamped signature".

Still the same question whether your pending case is due to the security check. If so, the Ombudsman may give you the similar reply as the Service Center print it out. If no, then the results may be different.
