Does Lawyer expedite the process?

. I'm just kidding.Coming to the point, it's easy to do your own filing and definitely there are no documents to write other typing in the relevant information on the forms unlike the Employment based GC process.

If you decide to take a lawyer, be sure he is a good one. I've heard a lot of stories that instead of helping people they screw the process though they get paid for it. One thing ,you do it yourself you care ,another thing a lawyer who has lots of people same as you.

I'm a USC applying for both paretns living abroad. I also came across a lawyer that promissed to bring my parents here in two months!... Then I looked at the INS processing times and considered that after the application has been approved they need to go to an embassy for interview and how much time will be spent on the letters going back and fort... Anyway I did the math in my mind and came to the conclusion that it's not possible to do all that in two months therefore the lawyer is making false promisses and I don't want to trust someone that is not telling the truth in the first place... I rather do it myself and not be dependent to lawyers.
hey if u want to use any lawyer is up to u. but most of us who did it ourselves got our green cards ,ther,s only one line for everybody. just make sure u dont make mistakes on the forms and put include all the documents they ask. u gonna be fine,and even if in case uscis needs further documents they gonna ask for it,no more lawyers, ask anything on this furom and u gonna get an answer,good luck
Thank you all for your reply. I checked the time, my DO take a little bit over 1 year. And I asked other lawyers, only one checked the DO's processing time, and said a little bit over 1 year. The other all said around 6 to 8 months. Is there other way to expedite the process?

There is no way to expedite the process. If there was one, trust me...we all would be using the expedite process instead of sharing our failure, success and frustration on this forum. I think you should post that lawer's name on this forum so others are also aware of a scum. He is a worthless piece of shit who is only interested in your money.
On the other hand, you can have him sign a contract that if you dont have green card in x number of days, he will pay you $100,000. No fine prints. Lets see if he spills the truth then.

I heard that before lawyers did help. We went to talk to a lawyer before we started this process and he said that before, he was able to go personally to the DO, leave the papers and get the AP and EAD right away, only lawyers could do that. He said that since then all the process has changed since everything needs to be mailed (in the effort to expedite the process...SURE). Now, it's not worth it, we were really looking into hiring a lawyer but I finally convinced my husband we could do it by ourselves.
And a general comment:
In my opinion lawyers are the worst social cathegory, no wonder there are so many jokes about them like for example: Q:"What means 10,000 lawyer on the bottom of the ocean?" A: "A good start"
...everybody hates them (well, if I think of that cold bloded murderer, O.J. Simpson ...maybe not everybody
) and at a point in time most of the people were either screwed up by a lawywer or "cleand out" by a lawyer...or maybe both (most likely )
From my personal experience, back in Oct.-Nov. 2005 desperate of my naturalization situation, I spoke with a lawyer (who worked so many times for me or for people recomended by me) and he mentioned the magic word: "Mandamus" He said that it's:
1. Going to cost me $20,000(!!!)
2. No guarantee that the judge is going to accept the case(!!!)
3. That the case will be filled in 9th Circuit Court in San Francisco(!!!)
1. In 2 Months I've learn here in the Citizenship forum more than that moron knows about suing CIS in the Federal Court. Also an average attorney charge is $1,000-1,500 plus per hour if the case goes to court...not $20,000
And is very easy to do it yourself, pro se, without a lawyer
2. If you're stupid and you don't know what you're doing it's possible that the judge will reject the case, but at least in my ex-state, California, a well documented case against CIS in Federal Court is a guarantee winner.
3. The idiot even dind't know where the case shoud be filled, not in San Francisco at 9th Circuit Court which is a court of Appeal, but in the local District Court where you belong to.
What those predators bet on, is that most of the people are ignorats, generally affraid to start a battle against giants like CIS, FBI, US Attorney General, etc.
Moreover, "stupid" immigratnts like us, came over from other coutries and we are affraid of CIS, of FBI, of the new system, we don't know the language, etc.
