Does L1 visa time count towards the 6 yr H1 cap ?

I have stayed in USA on L1 visa from 3/98 to 3/99 (around 1 year) thru company A, went back to India, and came back afresh on H1 visa in 7/99 thru company B. Just wanted to know whether L1 visa stay period will count towards 6 years max stay on H1 or not.
