This question just popped out of my mind because last election year a friend of mine took only 6 months to get his GC from I-485 status. Well just wishin and hopin ......

I know these politicians will do anything to win.

could be true

Vote plays role in this country, especially ELECTION year.

I am sure there will be something happen in ELECTION year. But the problem is that USCIS might promise much more than what they can accomplish. When election year is over, they dont even remember what they have said. Just think about that four years ago they promise that immigration cases will be handled within half year., but look at now.

You may be right but even if thats the case last time democrats were in power and assuming that they instructed for faster processing finally they lost ....

so seeing that it doesnot make any difference to them ... and also the greencard holders cannot vote ..... yes may be after they become citizen they might remember this ....but then its a long term objective....

maybe

It is absolutely right that no GC holder has right to vote, untill being naturalized. When I said vote, that means that all candidates know that thousands of people who are experiencing GC ordeal have relatives in this country. Thats why whoever proposes good immigration policy will catch more votes from those US citizens who have someone suffering the GC processing, especially Mexicans, and other minorities. Just think about how they catch votes in Florida and California...

It is totally political issue here. Just pray whoever will take office can pay a little more attention to us, nobody and suffering but with dream in this country.

Immigration Law Will Play A Part, But I Don't Think It Will Help Us.

It is clear that immigration law will play a part in the election. This is demonstrated by the recent Bush announcement on guest workers. However this was targeted to appeal to hispanic voters. The though was that giving illegals a path to a GC, would appeal to their US citizen counterparts and they would vote Republican. Hispanic voters are the fastest growing minority and long term are vital the the electoral success of both parties.

Unfortunately there are no votes in supporting business immigration. We are not as a class poor enough to generate sympathy as an oppressed class. We are also seen as taking jobs away from Americans, and once we get GC and citizenship we melt away into the population. Business doen't really want us either they would rather have disposable H1-B's. We can't vote, we can't contibute to political parties and we can't generate support in the wider population.

We had better hope that attention doen't tuen to us during this election year because if it does it will not be favorable.

I guess we can't compare economies of the last election year and the current year. They are two different stories. Back then , economy was at peak and right now , finding a job is not that easy. That could be the reason why immigration processing was fast then. It even started a lot of favorable laws like the AC21 or 180 days promise or free to stay here if your LCA is pending for 1 year, etc ... Adding up to the choke currently is the 911 incident ... :-(

I hope something could come up for us LAW abiders in the immigration aspect and TAX payers. BTW, Latinos has replaced African Americans as the number 1 minority in the US since last year survey. That explains why Bush is pushing for a worker's visa plan for them.

LPR's doesn't have voting rights with just few exceptions for local elections. So no impact for EB GC processing times.

All promises made in the election year are not really going to work. The promises only aggrevate the common man in US against legal immigrants. Bush's announcemnt of giving GC to illegal immigrants, who have proof of 2 years of employment would be elligible for GC, would not really work.
An illegal immigrant will not have any proof to show his/her employment. With no SSN number, No paystubs..., and no taxes paid. One is not elligible to apply for ITIN too without I-94. The employer will not keep any records..., If the employer claims his company employed illegal immigrants.., dont you think the employer will be confisicated first. The employer may even deny recognizing the employee....

I feel it STRONGLY ......

No wonder ....it happens during election year, but currently it's slow due to all security measure...

But I do see it in one region (CSC) where large number of one ethinic group lives, already started processing year 2003 cases and seeing more number of approvals every day.

Everyone know GC holders can't vote, but at the same time Politicians very well aware that GC holders will become an US Citizen within 6 years after getting PR. For GC seekers waiting for 6 years to get the GC is a lot of time, but for Politicians the same time is too short to become the Preisdent of USA or any other high level positions. So Politicians understand the value of GC holders. If this is true, hopefully we see more approvals before October.

Partially right.

I bet most people know that those politicians are not thinking for GC applicants or holders, their target is thousands of US citizens who have derivative or relatives with GC pending.

Dont even think about after 5 years, 6 years, blah blah. No one cares about that at all.
