Does INS ask any questions from previous employers while processing I-485?

Hi Gurus,

I was told by someone that INS asks all your previous employers some sort of questions before they clear the I-140or I-485. Not certain of that, so wanted to know if someone has any knowledge of this. If INS does ask, what kind of questions do they ask and if one of your past employers does not give any response, what happens ?

They requested me to provide employment history since my last lawful entry. And I had to provide information from all my employers since my last lawful entry. So, yes, they could very well ask for that but my understanding is that this a discretionary call made by the officer reviewing the case.
