I am currently on an H4 (Valid for 2 years) visa - not yet stamped in the passport. There is a chance that I can get a six month assignment - company willing to sponsor H1B- which could get extended beyond 6 months.

Would greatly appreciate help with the following.

If this assignment does not get extended would I have to reapply for an H4 visa or can i just revert back to my current H4. Does the current H4 get cancelled when the new H1 gets issued??? I am not planning to get the new H1 stamped in my passport.

Thanks for your answers!

Stampless existence

I am not sure about the validity of previous visa status in a stampless world.
You can get back on H4 if you have a H4 stamp (by going out of US and coming back using valid H4 visa stamp). Without a stamp in your passport I guess you will have to apply for I539 to change back to h4. My opinion.
