Does H1B(exempt) Stamping cancel the other H1B (non-exempt) approvals??

I currently work on H1B (exempt-University) which is valid till June 2009. Last week (first week of Feb 2007), I got it stamped from Mexico for the second term of my H1. I am planing to change my jobs (to shift from exempt to non-exempt). I have an H1B approval from a consultancy company on which the start date was in second week of January, 2007.

Can I go join the consultancy company any time? Some one told me that when I got my exempt renewed, my non-exempt H1b approval will be invalidated and I have two options.....

Either go for stamping again with non-exempt H1 approval to start working for the consultancy company (the same person told me that my chances of getting visa for the non-exempt H1b are close to none as I recently got a visa for my University H1B (exempt H1B).

or

I have to wait and file in the new quota? (Wouldn't I be in the same situation as I am now?)

Please advise me on this. I have committed to pay my H1B processing fee (almost $2000) to the consultancy who filed my exempt H1b. I wouldn't have gone to Mexico if I knew that it may invalidate my non-exempt H1B.

Thanks for your time and help,
