Does Calling INS help?

Told by lawyer not to call INS Cust service as they may note it down in the DB. But do any of you feel that calling helps in speeding up the process.

It does help MCI/AT&T or whoever your long distance carrier is.

As far as the you (callers) are concerned, talking to IIO leaves you confused and with wrong information.

I'm not sure what to believe... I just spoke to an IIO and he said he'll mark my file "past processing time" and forward it to the division to an officer to make a decision. he also asked me to check back in 3-4 weeks.

All this leaves me confused... To believe or not to believe... :)

Junior, believe this,

If your case is screwed up, as per the JIT's released, (That is ND < 10/16 as of today), then you can expect some decent answer from an IIO.

Otherwise, ur wastin' ur time.

Not really, Silly. Remember when I called IIO she told me to wait 2 more months because my case was received in Sept and they are processing Nov? No matter your case is screwed or not, calling IIO simply doesn't make any sense at all.

IRRATIONAL

I totally agree with the last post.

Calling IIO doesn't help, sending faxes doesn't help, waiting doesn't help either...

My lawyer already sent 4 faxes since last Fall.

My ND is early 9/2001, so my case is old.

After the second fax an officer replied that my case was assigned and it was last September. Only in Dec they issued an RFE...since them 2 more faxes were sent. No approval so far.

So calling or faxing is just a waste of them because the INS is IRRATIONAL and works in an IRRATIONAL way.

This is not new. I have been dealing with that since my H1b application that took 6 months to get approved, not even mentioning my H1b transfer that took another 5 months...

caviar, the_card, you guys are just pissed off at INS. Well guess what .. I AM TOO. and I know 99% of the times anything they do doesn't make sense, but hey, comparative terms, if a march 02 guy calls, versus a september 01 guy, chances are that the sep 01 guy will get a decent answer. Chances .. chances.

Nothing makes sense when we are talking about INS. Take a look at my tracks:

8/1/2001 - 485 mailed
8/20/2001 - 485 received
9/20/2001 - notice sent
9/2001 - 10/2002 - called called and called
11/2/2002 - called and was told case assigned
11/4/2002 - lawyer sent fax and got fax back from INS saying 'case is with an officer'
11/2002 - 1/2003 - called a few times and was told case assigned on 11/1/2002
2/14/2003 (what a nice day) - called and was told case NOT assigned and please wait 2 more months because they are processing 11/2001 cases. (*&^%$#@!) any reason why case goes back to shelf? well... no. that's just what IIO reads from the computer.
2/21/2003 - lawyer sent fax. no response so far.

Does it make any sense, totally, please?

the_Card it is too bad for the 2 of us. INS is processing Nov2001 cases they are not processing anymore pre Nov2001 cases... ;)

Nothing makes sence with them and calling or faxing just frustrates us a little bit more.

Nothing we can do...just wait.

Lets wait they process all the backlog since 11/2001 and maybe then they will look at pre 11/2001 cases...we might be retired and very old at that time...

IIO response instructions:

Some additions, from the REAL experience of those who was calling IIO:

Depending on the current JIT date, RD and ND dates of the case, tell a pending I485 applicant the following:

A. ND AFTER current JIT date:
"Currently we are processing cases filed ON the JIT date"

B. ND = current JIT date:
"Currently we are processing cases BEFORE the JIT date"

C. ND BEFORE JIT date:
"You need to call at least in 30 days after JIT has passed your ND date"

D. RD BEFORE JIT date MINUS 30:
"Our JIT tables is based on ND date."

E. ND BEFORE JIT date MINUS 30 days:
You can choose one of the three possible answers:
1. "You are calling too late. We already processing cases filed ON the JIT date"
2. "Our JIT table is based on FBI fingerprint response date*"
3. "You should call us back in X** number of days"

(*you can also use RFE request or response dates whichever is later)

(** Calculate X from the following formula:
X = JIT date MINUS ND
Should you get a negative value for X or your calculator is dead, go to the answer "A")

stain, that is perfect. I agree 100%, now lets make a website, and ask the user to enter all sorts of crap about him, and then tell him the results based on the above logic. That way INS could fire all the IIO's save some money and actually process something for a change.
