Does being a "former illegal" leave me with a criminal record?

Might be a stupid question. I'm guessing the answer is "no" but I was wondering to what extent my criminal record will leave as far as being an illegal immigrant in the past (for ex., background check for a job). I have GC with a USC spouse and will apply for USC as soon as eligible.
I'm studying Criminal Justice in a university so pretty much all places I will be applying will be extremely sensitive to my background. I'm guessing it would be impossible for any jobs in USCIS, TSA, CBP, ICE, etc, that almost sounds funny to me (former illegal working in those agencies) but I'm hoping other agencies will be a bit less sensitive about my past immigration history.

Legalization is just that. Cancellation of Removal and adjustment of status is similar. Anyone who sees the code on your card can look it up but most people will not care. Incidentally, being an illegal alien is a CIVIL offense and is NOT a CRIMINAL offense.

Once you naturalize, you will be eligible to work for DHS if that is the only issue of concern. You cannot run for president or be in the line of succession but even a Cabinet member can be removed as was Madeleine Albright (initially an asylee).

Incidentally she will be honored as an Outstanding American by Choice later today (9/23/11).
