Documents that will be requested for I-485

I would want to know if Income Tax returns are requested for the I-485 processing or the agency just needs the W-2's?

Any help is appreciated.

As per my understanding.
copy of 1040 for the last three years.
W-2 is not enough

Correct, copies of 1040s (federal and state) for last couple of years.
