A friend of mine reffered this site to me. Can someone help me with what documents I need to submit for Citizenship? My son is 8 yrs. old. He too has a GC. I was told that only people with 18 or older are eligible to apply. How do I get the citizenship for him? Thanks in advance.

once you get your citizenship, you can apply citizenship for your son. i think it might require the form N-600, however, i am not too sure.

regarding the documents for applying citizenship, did you attemp to read the sticky post in this forum, and attemp to get info from the n400 instruction?

Thank you for taking some time and responding. No. I haven't. I just started exploring the Citizenship section.

Once you become a citizen, your son automatically becomes a citizen and can apply for US passport based on your naturalization certificate. The passport is the ultimate document that serves as proof of his citizenship. However, if you prefer to have a saperate naturalization certificate for your son, then you can apply for it using N-600 after completion of your naturalization process.

i always thought a n600 is necessary for a individual. Is it possible to skip n600 and go for a passport?

I skipped N-600 for my two sons and got them passports directly. That saved me about $700.00

Thank you all for your input. I am happy to know that I don't have to worry about my kid citizenship. Thanks again.

I do not think the US passport is "the ultimate" proof of the US citizenship. However, it is one of the documents to prove your US citizenship. If you can skip the N600, then you can save yourself some $ and time.

however, if your son reaches age of 21, and he lost his passport and did not make a photocopy of the passport (or basically, no other proof), you would have to ask the question about how he could prove himself as a US citizen thou. (I just speak it out loud. I do not know if it would be an issue or not).

This situation was discussed in this forum several times already. If you try search, it should be possible to find those threads. There were links to some documents on CIS web site. Kids under 18 get citizenship automatically when their parents get citizenship.

I had my interview on 9/21. It took just 10mts. The officer was very nice and polite. Few civic questions and it was over. I was given the Oath letter (scheduled for tomorrow 9/28) in person. It's a great feeling. This forum has been very helpful. It took little over 3 months for the whole process to complete (including tomorrow's Oath ceremony). Here are my details....
