Hi everyone,

Let's say you are an asylum applicant and your case status is pending. You are in the States and you are waiting for your case to become resolved approval. While you wait you decide to sell things on internet. The "business" grows, you buy more stuff and sell more stuff, it gives you significant income. You file taxes and do everything legally and with no problems. However, you don't have the EAD. Would one need to get EAD in this situation?

Another situation: same residence status but now you are working as an interpreter through contracts. How this works is that you pass a proficiency exam and then you could contract with interpreting agencies and they call you and tell you where to be and who is the client needing interpretation. It is considered self-employment tax-wise but do you need to get EAD for such a job?

Sorry if I am beating a dead horse.
Thanks.

If your current status requires you to have an EAD to work in a regular job, you would also need an EAD to buy and sell goods for profit on a regular basis.

Same thing applies to that contract/interpreter stuff.

But how does your question have anything to do with family based green cards?

I don't think EAD is needed for selling busness, you indcated that you are filing taxes meaning you have SSN or at least TAX ID # which is enough to conduct the business plus you are legally present in USA.

As for the interpreting, if you were a freelancer, contractor, self-employed, you still don't need EAD, you can use the TAX ID.
