Dear experts,

My wife and I were F1, followed by H1, followed by I-485 approval. Our SS card says "Valid for work only with INS authorization". After recieving GC (or after passport stamping) do we need to get new SS cards.

Yes, you would need to go to their office and have them issue a new card with no restrictions. Some of the earlier cards they have issued (in early 90's have no such restrictions).

Yes, you need to apply for a new SS card with the same number and without the restriction.

Do we need to apply for it after stamping or after recieving the card

Do we need to apply for new SS card after stamping or after recieving the card.

Does BCIS send the GC card even when the new SS card has not been applied or we need to first get the SS number before BCIS sends the GC card.

Getting GC has nothing to do with SS card. You can apply for a new SS card either after stamping or after receiving the GC.

You don't NEED a new card.

If you like you can get a card without the restriction printed on it.
You don't NEED to at all.

I have NEVER been asked to produce my SS card. Lots of people want the number but not the card. Perhaps my experience is different than most other people. Since I see no advantage to a new card, I have not and do not intend to apply for a new card.

SSA updates their datebase too and remove the restriction. So it's not just "card". Can be useful for various benefits in future which normally non-immigrants don't get or not eligible.
