I know this question may look silly. I didn't see any thread related to this.

I need to file for a 7th year extension (both H1 and H4). I checked with couple of lawyers and they are charging too much. ($1500). Is this the normal rate? Do we really need an attorney to file for extension?

Please share your experience if you have applied it by yourself.

I am in the same boat.
I want to file for the 7th year extension without the lawyer.
I recently filed for 485 and 140 and that costed me lot of money and now I am trying to save some $1500.

I see there is only one problem -- get the labor cetification. It cannot be done by us -- the application ( online or fax) should either be filled by employer or attorney representing the employer.

Let me know if you come across some good information.

Thanks

Thanks kiranmath.

Do you think we need to submit a labor certification copy or the Original?

Its with our attorney. I don't think they will give it to us. Let us see and wait for more repsonses.

Just curious does your respective companies charge you for every stage of immigration process?

hi golumolu,

not everybody is lucky as you are. My company pays for GC and EAD.
when EAD is sponsored by company why would they spend another $1500 to
process H1 extension.

i want to file extension for safer side.

My personal advice would be to go via the lawyer route. A small mistake could give you many sleepless nights. Although there's no guarantee how good that lawyer you pick would be but check out any Desi newspaper, I'm sure you'll find tons of them.
