Do we have to wait for RFE for FP and Medical ?

Hi All,
Do we have to wait for RFE for FP and Medical ?

Can we not re-new our medical or FP without RFE from INS ?

I thought there was expiry date for the same. My FP is one year old now and Medical is 16 months old.

My lawyer said FP and Medical cannot be re-newed (like AP or EAD) or applied for without a request from INS.

Anyone re-newed there FP or Medical recently ?

Please advice/comments/share your experience.

As there have been discussions

in the past few days, it is not of any use to submit any docs to INS until you get a query. Better wait.
Regarding medicals, if you had submitted yours along with 485 application, it is valid forever until a decision is taken on your case. If you did not submit along with 485, you still have to wait till they issue a RFE. RFE's have a bar code in their forms which they can easily link with your case files. So, connecting your docs with your file will not be a big hassle after you submit docs with RFE.
Regarding FP, i think it is valid for 15 months. You cannot initiate FP on your own and if you do FBI will be at your doorsteps.:)

Thank you Roran for the information.

Thats pretty much what my lawyer said. Except for, I was almost sure that Medical expires in an year or 15 months.
I am glad if it does not, because I have given my medical documents on time with my 485 and in-order.

I was told that the adjudicating officer makes the decision on medicals. He can order a new one if he wants to. However there is no time limit.

If your FP expires in 3 months, I would call INS indicating that they expire soon. I was also told that they should bring that to the attnetion of the officer so that redoing FP can be avoided if possible. She even gave me the fax number of the officer who has my case.

Whatever you do, DON'T send documents to INS expecting them to cross-reference them. It will never happen.

I will remind my lawyer about this. Until today my lawyer has been very efficient in renewing my and my spouse's EAD on time without a reminder. I hope my lawyer takes right step on right time this time also.
