Do they ask everyone for RFE? If not could someone please tell me what is the criterion they use to single you out for an RFE request?

I'm a victim of this RFE disease too. As far as I know there isn't any hard and fast criteria other than
1. the Birth Certificate issued by Embassy.
2. IIO's decision to issue RFE for factors he thinks the petition warrants..

If you receive an RFE and are not the first category I guess you might fall into the second one.
Although I think the number of RFEs have increased quite a bit recently (I have no statistics to prove that..).

I made a mistake in the dates I wrote in the original message. My RD is 01/03/2002, and not 2001.

I gather from your reply that some people don't get an RFE (though it seems most do nowadays). Oh well. Its all up to

It all depends on your luck yaar. If one is lucky enough there will be no rfe, that's all. But i also heard usually if you change a job, change of addres, change of attorney there might be more chances of getting RFE. But i know people who changed all these but did not get rfe and got their approvals.

RFE seems to be threatening and fast-spreading disease originating from BCIS these days...
looks like for every case being approved, there is a RFE issued on another...50-50

As per Murthy, RFE is generated on random basis for quality control purpose, so it all depends on luck
