Do I need to waive my J-2 to get a DV Visa?

Hello Everybody,

I am J-2 visa holder whose 2 year HRR is not ended yet. I am in my home country now. 2 year HRR will end next year June. Currently I am selected as one of the DV lottery winners and waiting for my second notification letter from Kentucky Consular Center. So can I have a chance to get my DV visa? Or do I need to waive it? If I need it, will I need a No Objection Letter? Or......?

Thanks.

IMO the best option is to wait with your interview until you have finished the requirements and June is a perfect time for the interview. You didn't mention your case # so I don't know if your case # even will become current before June, so you should be fine.:)

From the time of winning it takes a long time before you finish the entire process and have the GC in your hands...the soonest can be late Oct. since the first to become current are the lowest # in the beginning of Oct. but then they still need to get their interview.

My friend got her interview in Febr. which is only 4 months before June...just request a later interview date if you have a low #...

Thank you Bentlebee.

My CN is 2011AS00010XXX. I don't know how to look at visa bulletin and know the period. Tell me, please. Is it possible to delay the interview? And How?

Thank you so much again.

When you look at the Visa bulletin you will see the numbers that will be current for that month. The number mentioned is the last number that will be current for that period and every number that is lower than the number mentioned....the higher numbers have to wait till they are mentioned.

You can delay your interview by sending the paper back and stating you can't come on that date. Your interview will be delayed for at least 4-6 weeks...you only risk that they run out of visa numbers but that hasn't happened the last couple of years according to an employee at USCIS. Don't delay it too long, since Sept. 30th is the deadline for that years DV lottery and people who miss it will not get a GC.

Make sure that you have all your papers ready and no mistakes, so your interview can go smoothly and you won't be put on Adm. Processing for any issues.:)
