I don't think you need to let your lawyer know about applying for AP, unless your case is complicated and you need your lawyer to be aware of the application or you need your lawyer to apply on your behalf. We applied for my wife's AP ourselves last year and successfully obtained it. I know many others in this forum have done the same.
