Do i need to apply for SIN?

I'll be landing in Jan 2006 with family and will be staying there for a week and then come back to US.

Do i need to apply for SIN (or health care) given the fact that i don't have any plans to move there in the near future?

Any help will be appreciated.

I applied for my SIN and not my health card since I too didnt have plans to move immediately

Are there any advantages/disadvantages to have SIN card?

Like.....Does having SIN card, makes it mandatory you to file taxes?

You Can Not file for Provincial Health Care until you reside in Canada. Each province is different on how long you must live there before you are eligible.
