Do i have to buy a Round trip ticket?

My mom has just been issued a tourist visa to visit us for the 1st time and we are about to buy an air ticket for her. Do we have to buy a round trip ticket? If we do, can the return trip be 5.5 to up to 6 months apart from arrival trip?. Is it very likely that the POE will issue a 6 month stay authorization since this is the 1st time visit? Anyone has any experience. Has anyone bought a 6 month round trip ticket and the POE only issues a 3 month stay for example, or will they deny the entry? Also , since my mom cannot speak English, should i give her a letter asking for a longer stay, such as 6 months, or this length of stay is usually issued for 1st time tourist visa holder?

Does she have to give the POE official health insurance policy?

Please help!!!!

I highly recommend she travels on a round trip ticket.

She will most likely get a 6 months entry, but do not count on it happening 100%.

So if the POE officer questions her on her request for 6 months stay, how will she defend/justify it?

I have a question on the same lines..in the POE will they calculate the 6 months..by exactly counting 180days. The reason am asking this is I am planning to book tickets based on covenient days and it is coming to 182days, will that be a problem.

You should allow a week or more for last minute travel problems and book for 170 days out or less. And remember that a 6 month visit is not always granted especially if something appears amiss.

Health insurance should be purchased to cover the entire duration of her trip - including the day she leaves for the US. She could arrive ill and without insurance you will have to pay the bills.

Will two days really make a difference for a six month visit? Ideally your mother should depart a few days before the six months are up. This will be a good long term exercise.
