Dear Friends,

I am a new NJ resident (although I am living here for an year now), recently I was stopped by a cop and got a ticket for Improper driving. I still commute from NY area and my company is in that area too.

My wife is in NJ, commutes to work daily and holding an NY Driving License. We have not changed the Driving License for her (Still she has NY license).

Our I-485 is pending for about 2 years now (RD: 08/29/2002).

My questions are

Q1: Is it neccessary to change the DL once you change the state?
Q2: Should we have to go to regular DMV or Regional Processing Center?
Q3: What are the documents I need to take with me?
Q4: Any problems that I should be aware of for getting a DL in NJ?

Any experiences would really help me in getting thru this.

Thanks in advance for your help.

glb.

Q1: Is it neccessary to change the DL once you change the state?
Depends, legally you are required to change DL with in 60 days after you move to a new state.
Q2: Should we have to go to regular DMV or Regional Processing Center?
You have to go to Regional Processing Center.
Q3: What are the documents I need to take with me?
Oridinal SSN Card
Address Proof: Any mail from Govt office or utilities bill (should have applicant's name on it), Bank statement.
EAD Card
ATM Card
Go to DMV site and you will find all the details (They follow some 6 point rule)
Q4: Any problems that I should be aware of for getting a DL in NJ?
Only problem that I think of is, DL will be valid up to the date to which your EAD card is valid. (sometimes they add 3 months)
