Divorce - UNconditional resident - all actions needed?

I have been in the US more than 3 years and received my 10 year unconditional green card about 1 1/2 year ago.

Now I'm getting divorced because my wife and I seem to have grown apart ... sad story if you ask me. But, life goes on so:

What steps do I need to take regarding my residency?
- I heard you don't need to notify USCIS. Is that true?
- Do I have to take action to get a new sponsor?
- Anything else I would need to take into concideration or need to do?

What if I renew my card after 10 years?
- Will I still need a sponsor?
- Will my marriage or divorce come up at that time?

I don't care to much for citizenship at this point and I know the 3 year / 5 year rules for being married / not married.

Thanks,
Victor

Hi:

You need not concern yourself with immigration at all in terms of your divorce. It is really irrelevant. You do NOT need to find a new sponsor - the I864 is a valid contract and the divorce will not end your current wife's obligation. She will need to honor the I864 until you become a USC, or become credited with 40 quarters of work, or die, or leave the US permanently. (see I864 form)

When you renew the I864, you will NOT need a new sponsor.

however, until you become a citizen, you must file AR-11 every time you move, and until you become a citizen, your soon-to-be-ex-wife has to file I-865 every time she moves.

Thanks for the info! Good to hear there's not much to do. Never thought about the fact that my sponsor(s) have to notify USCIS about their address changes....

Hi:

Sigh. I do wish people would read the contracts they sign. If your spouse had read her I864, she would have known of the requirement. BTW, the AR11 is your obligation, but the I865 is HER obligation. If you feel kind, you can remind her of this.

You're right of course ... I'm sure we didn't read it all.

I sent out an AR11 before but my wife never sent out the I-865 when she moved with me on the same day ...

I will definately remind her of it, I'm hoping to be friends with her for a very long time.

Thanks again
