I have been a permanent resident since 2002, however during this time, I travelled out of the USA for a period of3 to 4 months every year till 2006, in jan of 2006 I left the USA on 28 of jan 2006 and returned back to the USA on oct 13 2006, the absences of these years was because I was contuining my education in my native country and had to travel to take my exams. From oct 2006 till june 25 2008 I stayed in the USA continiously and travlled out of the country on june 26 2008 and returned back on aug 20 2008, do these absences make me ineligible to apply for citizenship? My husband is also a green card holder and we have been in the USA since 2001, although I do own an active bank accopunt in the USA since 2001, I have not worked in the country and hence do not have any tax filings of my own, except for the joint filings with my husband, I also dont have any mortgage payments since we owned a house only since 2007, I do however have rent payments since 2001, paid by my husband , does this help in any way? can anyone please advise? thanks so much

It all depends if you can prove that you didn't break US residential ties by showing evidence such as lease/rental agreement, US bank accounts, residence of your spouse during the time you were out of the country, and any other ties to US residency.

I think your situation is a dilemma. Your ties and residency requirements will be questioned... I would consult a lawyer to have your case evaluated.
