Hello,

My husband's passport is expiring in october 10th 2004. So if we have to apply for the new passport it should be not less than 6 months. That means the earliest we can apply for the new passport is in April 10th 2004.

Our 1-485 was approved on April 1st 2004. We are going to get the approval notices in few days, so we are thinking that on April 10th he can apply for his new passport to the Indian consulate in DC. It's taking 10 days to process this kind of application. So after he gets the new passport we want to go for stamping. Is that a good idea? Or

Should we go for the stamping now and appy for the new passport later and go through with the stamping of the new passport again? if yes what is the procedure involved for getting the new passport stamped???

Any suggestions are most welcome. Thank you very much in advance.

I extended my passport

My passport expired and I renewed in Houston office. It took them 1 week to send me a new passport.

When they gave the new passport, they attach the old passport to new passport and advised me to not to detach it for some years (until I go for third passport - expiration or all pages used)

You can get your passport stamping now, and you should get your card in 2 weeks. then you can apply for renewal.

( you can also wait to renew the passport and then do stamping. It does not affect any status).

You can go ahead and get your passport stamped. Nowadays, you get physical cards in a month or so. If you don't get it, you can always get your new passport stamped when your old passport expires. Just go to your local office, they should do that without any problems.

Either way it does not matter.

It takes a week or more to get the approval notice in hand. You will have the new passport in around same time.

But you can stamping on old passport use that too.

It does not really matter.

BUT IF I WERE IN YOUR BOAT, I WOULD GET THE STAMPING ON NEW PASSPORT- WHY CARRY TWO PASSPORTS. AGREED PLASTIC CARD IS COMING IN A MONTH - BUT THAT CAN CHANGE TOO.

Thank You so much

Thank you for replying so promptly.

If I get my passport stamped and if I apply for the new passport, do I need the same documents to get the new passport stamped again please?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Planning to go for vacation

i would like to mention one more thing. I'am planning to go for vacation in June , so to get the plastic card is it advisable to get the old passport stamped to save time or to go ahead and apply for the new passport and get it stamped. Does it delay the getting of the plastic card?

Thanks in advance

Question

If I get the passport stamped and I again get it stamped after I get the new passport, when does the plastic card countdown start? Is it the first time or the 2nd time?

Any information regarding this is appreciated.

-Thanks

Passport stamping has no relation to the processing of your physical card. Your passport is stamped for temporary evidence of your PR status. You can go and give your FP after you receive your 485 approval and decline to get your passport stamped.
