Diffrent name on NP and GC. What to do?

Here is the situation.
I am a GC holder from 06/07. I applied for RP, however it was denied due to the stupid reason such as unscanable photos. I don’t have nether desire nor money to appeal or reapply so I want to use my NP+GC to go to the neighboring country of my COP. The slight problem is that spelling of my name on GC is differing from spelling on the NP. Do you thing it is going to be a problem on the POE or may be there is a way to collect some kind of prove that it was my old name and I changed it later with the green card application(which is true).
P.S>. I guess that when OI will swipe the GC he will see my old name but who knows. I just don’t want to go to the secondary inspection.
Thanks

You are about to create some serious unneceessary problems for yourself.
Resolve your identity issues before traveling overseas / abroad or else your passport would be revoke in USA or abroad.
Please, make easy for yourself.
-Apply for RP again OR Appeal the denial.
You cannot use a document enclosing your former name, with which you already requested a name changed, this could be seen as fraud.

Best luck

File I-190 application to replace permanent resident card and have your name changed on it. If you changed your name after the approval of your I-485, then you will need to provide legal documentation as to that effect to CIS. Why didn't you appeal the RP decision. I beleive you would have got it approved if you provided a new photograph that meets up CIS requirements.

Goodluck...

As far as i understand, to file the appeal you have to pay $595. It just does not make any sence.
I change the name when i applied for asylum status in 2001. They asked me if i want to use the different name. Spelling of my name was taken from the language of COP and it was unreadable, so i took my real name in English, however the NP has an old spelling but identical picture.
There no time for me to change the name on the GC and i really dont want ot do it.Do you guys really think it is going to be a problem with the same picture(if they even will look at those pictures).

I know of a person who had this same problem. His name was spelled different in his GC and his passport..he thought it wasn't a big deal and said "they both sound the same" and he travelled and came back. He was sent to secondary because of that reason.

To make the long story short, he had to sit there in secondary for 1 hour or so because they validated that it was him and not somoene else. He was ok because they validated him with his FPs..

So the moral of the story is, fix this issue before its a mess in the POE. Just fix your NP if you can or fix your GC. If it can't be fixed, then you need to get a RP or RTD.

The problem is that i really have to go at the beggining of the april.
I found my old american driver's license with the old name on it.
I think it is not a problem to get the new passport while i am there, but i am affraid that IO will ask me how come i went to one country and get the passport from my COP and it just issued. I think it will raise more quastions than if i will show the old one.
Is there a way to get prove of old name somewhere here. Like in Dmv or something.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thank you.

You changed your name legally right? Was there a court order? If you have to go then take as much proof as you can. Good luck.

I changed it when i was intervied for assylum status. The officer asked me do you want me to put the different name and i changed it. Never went to court to do it. They just gave me my innitial approval with my new name.

Look, the IO doesn't care about your passport and wehre it was issued ok?

All they care is that your identity is same as whats on your GC. So either you can fix your GC or fix your passport. You can fix your passport here at COP embassy or if possible at COP. I dont think it matters.

Does one even need to present a passport upon reentry to the US? Isn't a green card all that is required? I am not saying that one should go with two different names on the passport/GC but I am just throwing this out there.

Just wanted to let everybody now how my problem resolved.
I went to a trip and came back with no questions asked. The IO looked at my GC and my passport and just stamped it while i was trying to explain two different spellings of my name. It seems to me she did not care about my explanation at all.
End of the story,
Thanks for all advice i received.

Freon...

thanks for sharing your experience. Can I know which airport you flew back into the US? I have a similar situation as yours; my passport still has my middle name and I have omitted my middle name when I applied for my asylum/ I-485. I want to travel this summer but I am worried what kind of problem I will run in to. I have applied for a RTD back in Feb 2008 but has not received anything.

Freon, Your problem is not solved. You should correct it because down the road it may cause you problem and then it would be hard to correct it. Just my 0.02 cents.

Hey. I understand that. At this point i think that they have two of my names in the computer. If i will have a chance i will change the name in the NP.
P.S The POE was Chicago.
