Different Name on GC and Passport

Hi Guys,

I have a mix up of my middle name and my first name. My passport has my real first name while my GC has my middle name as my first name.
Question
Do i need to attach any document with my N400 application? Or i should just list my legal name and my name as listed on my GC in the N400 form

i had the same issue,so i entered my name as on gc (as current legal name on n400) and requested for a name change.
I had no problem with n400,but i had applied for a i90...man they almost told me that i am not the same person.
I mean all they had to do was take my fp and check the fp on the gc or the one in their file.Anyways i dont think it was uscis fault,as the ones who gave me this sh*t was the sub contractors who are working in the support centers.Hope uscis gives those ppl a lesson in racial tolerance(u can see her in the northwest support center,houston.... eagerly waiting to discriminate...but the rest of the ppl are nice,i mean i have been there like 10 times this year with documents to support my application).
Yup it ticks me off when i think of her....i wish i could write a article on that lady in the local newspaper :D

Thaks for you reply, My Passport, Social Security Card has all my current legal name. I should not have to request a change of name. It might just complicate thing. My Birth certificate also shows my current legal name

Thats good,it shouldnt be a problem then.I had the exact same situation too.
My passport/birth certificate/social security card/degree certificates/vaccination records/indian drivers license all had my legal birth name except for the green card where they had put my last name as my first name. :D .They told me all those documents including passport did not look authentic. So i had to get a affidavit from my parents back in india and get it attested by the indian embassy here.

P.S:Your current legal name is the name on the green card, not the name on your birth certificate/passport/birth certificate.

It's OK

This problem happens to many people who come from HK, Singapore, Taiwan, China...etc.

The following explaination is for the name coming with a '-'....

For example, my legal name on passport is 'AAA, BBB-CCC'.
AAA is my last name, and BBB-CCC is my first name.
Due to US government system doesn't allow a '-' in the name.
my name will be inputted either 'AAA,BBBCCC' or 'AAA,BBB CCC'.
For most people who has '-' in firstname,
it will be inputted as 'AAA, BBB CCC' in US system.

OK, since it should be no space in anyone's first name,
the system read BBB as first name and CCC as middle name!
If you check your GC, you will see the name 'AAA, BBB C' above your photo,
but bar-code line(bottom) is still 'AAA, BBB CCC'.

I had my district Congressman checking it for me,
and GC center said my name is correct in the system,
but just can not be printed out correctly!

They also mention this is a 'common problem',
and don't have to worry about it!

Hope this is help.
