RD is the receipt date, the date BCIS received your appilcation.
ND is the notice date, BCIS sent you a notice on this date that they received your application.

One other note - the ND is called the "RECEIPT DATE" in CLAIMS, which is their case tracking system. Often IIOs used to confuse the two dates. This caused problems for some August 2001 filers like myself whose ND is two months after the RD.
