Difference between Name Check/Background check

I would like to know what is the difference between FBI name check vs Background check. I got a letter from FBI saying my name check has been complete and they sent the results to USCIS on 05/30/2006. I made an inquiry to USCIS about my case status on 06/30/2006 and they responded back to me using snail mail two days ago saying that my background check is still pending. My pd is Feb2001 and I am in EB2 CAT and I am from India.

Can some body shed light on this please?

feb2001pd,

Did you got LUD and message change after calling CIS? I made an inquiry about name check yesterday, one said it is cleared, the other said it is pending. Confused. Today I got LUD and message change as below:

`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
On July 17, 2006, we responded to your request for more information
concerning your case. If you have not received our response within 30
days from this date, please call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.
Will I receive a snail mail like you within 30 days?
Thanks.
It is the same although there are different checks..name/background check is the main one..Good that you cleared a major hurdle!
It takes some time for service centers to enter FBI data in to their database..In my case it took almost 3 weeks..In my opinion, if you do not put pressure on them, they will take their own time..which service center are u in? try to call them directly or ask your attorney to initiate AILA inquiry using FBI letter. You may have to hurry up and push your case before EB2 becomes unavailable next month. Please check my postings in these threads and see if it helps.
Good luck to you,
Toxsci,
Do you have any ideas about my situation listed below?
I callled CIS two times yesterday, morning and afternoon respectively. The morning rep. said all the background checks including FP, overseas check and name check are all cleared, but the afternoon rep. said it is still pending. I'm totally lost which one is right.
I guess, they may login different systems, like one is updated, the other is outdated; or one is for all background checks except FBI checks, the other is for all the backgrond checks.
Shed some lights?
Hopefully you will get a reply for your status inquiry soon. In my opinion, national customer service representatives are not that reliable as far as security checks are concerned..did you call your service center or general national service center?
Good luck to you,
Toxsci.
I called general service center, 1800#. How can they get the different story from their systems?
It depends on representative's knowledge about these things. Some of them do not bother to check things out. I think the written response that you get would be more authentic. If you are in TSC, call them directly using POJ trick.
Good luck,
Toxsci.
My understanding is that is specific for TSC. Please correct me if I am wrong.
That is correct. I am not sure if they have any similar tricks to contact other service centers.
How long does it take for USCIS to update their records after FBI sends the Name check results?
I got a mail today also from M.Bueno that my name check is still pending. I got the letter from FBI saying that my name check is complete on 05/30/2006 and the results were sent to USCIS. Its been a 50 days after FBI sent the results to USCIS and USCIS still says my name check is pending.
Don't understand what USCIS is doing....
Could you tell me how did you get FBI to response your status regading the name check? I just found out that I stuck in name check since 2004.... The TSC told me that this was initialed when my I485 was filed-- She won't even tell me when.. RD/I-485 is Feb9. 2004....
I have tried most of things that Toxsci has suggested... Don't know what to do now..... :mad:
I think they will take their own time, if you don't keep bugging them! In my case it took 3 weeks. Please refer to my earlier postings in the following thread http://www.immigrationportal.com/showthread.php?t=214587.
Now that you have this letter from FBI, your attorney can initiate an AILA inquiry..you can also call your service center directly and talk to a representative..and mention about this letter..national customer service may not be of much help in these matters.
Good luck,
Hi Toxsci,
First, thank you for all your link and I did everything you suggested... I was on the phone with the congress person's office and they said they will take the request and forward to FBI but they have never gotten any response..But I will still try.
My questions for you are 1. " How did you get response from FBI regarding your name check status?' I called the number and it is no longer working and said on the message they will NOT response even the e-mail....
2. Whom should I address to reagrding FBI on my letter to the congress person and senator? Could you please share if you know? Thanks a lot!!
My name check got stuck around 2 years I think.... RD/I-485 feb.9 2004.
I do not know which one worked..they stopped responding to calls long back..if you keep trying different things..one of them might work..
When you give request to elected representative, you should address your request to them..generally they just do a status inquiry..if you know someone or their secretary is good, they can try to expedite it..any ways, you have to keep trying different people..whoever is more immigrant friendly..My name check got stuck around 2 years I think.... RD/I-485 feb.9 2004.
Good luck!
I am perhaps in same situation as yours. I got to know from my senator that name check is complete as of 6th july 2006.
However incidentaly CSC also got back yday with my earlier enquiry saying name check pending. I am suspecting that the name check results are not updated. I have sent the senators letter to them now, lets see what they respond.
But one thing I noticed was a LUD on my case today..does it mean the name check has been updated, donot know!! guessing here.
