Hi,
Can someone please look into my question, I am travelling next week on Jan 20. My card was sent on Jan 4 and I still didn't get. What will be the next steps if I don't get my card. Can I travel on I551 stamp.

Online Message

On January 4, 2005, the card order was completed and we mailed
the applicant's new card directly to him or her. If 14 days
have passed and you have not received this card, you may wish to
verify or update your address. To update your address, please
call the National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283.

Thanks

"Sent" does not always mean it left the center that day. Several of our notices were supposedly "sent" but the postmark indicated they were actually mailed a few days later. I think there is sometimes a backlog in the mail room at the Centres and the Card Production facilities. It's only been one week - including a weekend - so I would look forward to receiving your card within a few days. If the card hasn't arrived, and your stamp is still valid, you can still travel on the stamp. I did (after my card was sent, but before I received it) and I had no problems with re-entry.

Hi wik,

thanks for responding, now I am relaxed but I am curious to know, if someone don't get his card in 14 days, will INS send another card or what they actually do. Please let me know if you have any information.

I called Post Office several times because I was thinking, might be mail carrier put into wrong mail box.Every one in Post office knows that I am expecting my green card.

Thanks

If you don't receive your card after a considerable amount of time (30 days to be safe), then you can e-file I-90 (free if it was lost in the mail or it's $185.00). After you e-file, you might have to make a trip to the local ASC and give index fingerprint + digitized photo (they take the photo and you don't have to carry one). Then, it takes however long it takes for them to process it.

You will get the instructions on setting up the appointment for index fingerprint, etc. after you complete the e-filing process.
