Did not receive Receipt Notice from NSC

Hi - I filed for I-485 soon after my I-140 was approved. Although I got my FP notice on 1/16/03 and went to fingerprinting on 2/7/03, NSC did not send me anything to acknowledge the receipt of my I-485. Has this happen to anyone before? Since I got my FP notice, I am pretty sure NSC has my file there ... anyone want to share their experience?

Did you apply yourself or your attorney on behalf of you. Usually attorney recieves the Receipts If applied through attorney.

Can you write some detail?
Thanks

Hi dude,

Don't bother about not getting a 485 receipt notice. I am also in the same boat. It has been a year since I 've applied. I had my EAD,AP etc. FP done. Receipt notice got lost in the mail(Atleast I believe so.. ) My attorney talked to the NSC center and asked for a duplicate notice. They said they can't do that and gave the LIN number. That is my hold right now.

Hello again..

A heartfelt thanks to 4riend and Nebraskan for their kind words.

4riend - yes, I have had an immigration attorney filed for I-485 and I don't think he has a copy also because he has not sent me any duplicate.

Nebraskan - I am sorry to hear that you also did not get a receipt notice from NSC. I am going to contact my attorney and have him contact BCIS to get my LIN #. Sounds like the wait for approval is long. I am sorry that you have been waiting for a year to get your approval. Here is my status...

I-485 received by NSC - ???? (didn't get my receipt notice)
Received fingerprinting notice on 1/17/03
Fingerprinting done on 2/7/03
EAD received on 2/17/03

You will find your LIN # on the I485 fee check endorsement. Make copy of front and back of the encashed check. I have heard that works too. After you get the Lin #, print your online status and keep for your records.

Vrajbhumi,

Thank you for the valuable tip! I am going to look at my cancelled check for the LIN number.

I can't believe I am getting this much support from you guys for gratis, while my attorney charges me quite a bit and seems to be somewhat indifferent.
I wish competent attorneys like Murthy and Rajiv were located in Illinois so that I could seek their legal assitance.

Anyhow, thanks again, Vrajbhumi!

Happened to me too!

The same thing happened to me. My RD is 1/3/02.

Have not received Receipt Notice yet. Lawyer never got it either!

Have had 2 EADs, 1 AP and 2 FPs. I believe that my notice is lost in the mail too!

Nebraskan is right - INS does not issue duplicate receipt notices.

You can get the LIN # from the cancelled check or I got if from NSC directly.

Also, when you get the LIN #, I would also get the A# (Alien #) from the NSC as everything - FP, AP, EAD etc is tied in to your A#. It may be a long wait on the phone to somone live to get this info, but I would recommend it.

Thanks for your tip, rsinha

rsinha -

Thanks a million for your advice.
Since I could not locate the check cashed by NSC, I used the A# on my Employment Authorization Card and called BCIS to get my LIN # (you were right, it took me forever to get someone on the phone to help me).

Now, I have a question for you. Did you file for your EAD online? Given your RD, I have a feeling that you filed it through your attorney. However, if you have, can you share with me your experience with e-filing? I know mine won't expire until 2/24/04 but I am curious about this online deal.

Thanks again,

Ghareeb

Hi,

Congrats for retriving your LIN from NSC. Did they give you the LIN without any hesitation? Was it answered by centralized 800 call center or by transfering the call to NSC? Also verify the 485 status online with you LIN.

Nebraskan -

Thanks for your post.
Actually, it was a great pain in the rear to talk to the BCIS Customer Service rep. Not only did it take me forever to reach her, I literally had to ask to be connected to an Immigration Information Officer. I am not sure if this IIO is from NSC, but he is the one who gave me the LIN #.

Upon conversing with him, I asked him how long the wait for GC approval was and he said NSC is looking at about 24 months before my I-485 can be adjudicated.

I took your advice and went online to check the status of my application. I can't believe that it takes 610 days to process I-485. When will this backlong end...
