Did not file AR-11 for change of address

Hi All,
I did not know that I had to file change of address. Recently I found out about it. I am about to file for my Naturalization. What are my options? Can I file the AR-11 now?

Second question. What are the photo requirements for Naturalization Application? Straight face or side face like earlier?

Thanks for all the help
Prasad.

I didn't file an AR-11 either (I distinctly remember asking at my GC interview "so is there anything else I need to do once I get a GC, register somewhere, file something, etc?" and the answer was "no").

As I was about to file my N-400, I found out about the AR-11 requirement (apparently it became important after 9/11). I consulted with a lawyer who reviewed my application. Her response was "the requirement isn't to file an AR-11 but to inform the government of the change of your address, and your N-400 fills that requirement".

Of course, second hand advice is not real advice, and I'm not a lawyer.

File an AR-11 right away. Send it my registered mail with return receipt. Keep a copy of the AR-11. Wait 3-4 weeks and then file N-400. Take the copy of the AR-11 and receipt to your citizenship interview.

Thanks for the help flydog and n400applier. I am filing AR-11 today. I will wait for a couple of weeks and send in my N400 application.

I moved about four time in last 9 years, and Didn't file an AR-11. I went through the N-400 process with no problem.

Some people have posted that the lack of AR-11 during N-400 processing and interview didn't matter. Many people are not aware of AR-11. Please don't take this as legal advice, but I think it makes sense that once you are aware of the AR-11 requirement, go ahead, fill it out and send it. USCIS recommends all this certified mail with receipt and the whole thing. In my opinion this doesn't make a difference. I would just send it by regular mail. I don't think it matters, and I wouldn't delay sending the N-400 on account of this, and I would probably send it even if you have already sent your N-400. Again, I wouldn't spend the extra money and effort for the certified mail. At the end of the day the receipt you get doesn't guarantee much, just that you sent a letter to that address, but doesn't certify its content or the processing of its contents as far as I can see.

My 2 cents.

I disagree Huracan. Remember USCIS is a goverment organization and more "official" proofs you have the better it is. I agree a receipt does not gurantee the content of the mail, but it does show the address to which it was mailed. (the address in the address where we send AR-11). This will help during the interview, if asked.

Forgot to file A-11: multiple relocations

Hi All,
I did not know that I had to file change of address. Recently I found out about it. I am about to file for my Naturalization. What are my options? Can I file the AR-11 now?

Second question. What are the photo requirements for Naturalization Application? Straight face or side face like earlier?

I am in a strange situation ...

Until a few days ago, I completely forgot that I had to update my address changes with USCIS each time I move after getting a green card. I was scared of consequences and searched the internet on others experiences. Upon searching the web, I came across a lot many cases where people had forgotten to update address. I found people had updated their addresses 1, 2 , 3 even 4 years after moving and there was no problem with their travel or citizenship etc. In all the cases, there they had moved only once.

My problem is that I am into consulting and over 2.5 years, I moved from address A to B to C to D. My address with USCIS is address A, where green card was sent. While filling the update form A-11, it asks for current address (D) and "LAST address". My question is that in this column, should I enter address C (actual last address) or address A (last address on file with USCIS). If address you advise me to place address C in the form, how do I justify the missing address updates when I moved to B and C? I did not wilfully hold back information, just forgot all about this clause. I am too scared to call the USCIS customer service to ask this fact.

Please help

Thanks

Just file the AR-11 for your current address and the last actual address, and then don't worry about it.

Once you file it before they prosecute you for it (which is very rare, and as far as I know they've only done that to people who have other immigration violations or a criminal record), they don't bother you for past failures to file.
