Hello,
I am new to the forum but i"ve been reading a lot recently because I am wainting on my GC. My husband and I applyed on Dec 5, 2005 and yesterday he received his green card in the mail.
In the beggining of February 2006 I got a ltter form TSC that for processing of my application they need a completed I-89 form and 2 photos. I made an appointment @ my local USCIS office on Febr 24, 2006.The lady filled out the form, took my photos,I gave an index finger print, I signed and she said that I will get my GC in the mail in 30 to 60 days. Has anybody been through that? I am really curious to find out if that is true because I called INS few times to ask them what this letter is for. I talked to 3 of the representatives and they told me that I have to go to my local office if they ask me to but the last one that I spoke with said that this is a mistake and I have to disregard this letter because my case was not approved yet. So confusing....Please tell me if any of you guys have been in this situation.

You are on the right track; however, the lady who took your photos and finger-print was assuming that you were approved for greencard. This happens many times. Once I went to USCIS office and when the lady who fingerprinted me and photographed me congratuladed me and told me to wait for my greencard through the mail even though I knew I was not approved. I didn't make anything out of that. Anyways, If you are still married to the principal you have nothing to worry about. Just wait for the approval...It will come soon. Good luck..

Thanks for the quick respond...
Well it is interesting because I went to my local USCIS office prior to my appointment just to ask them what the letter is for and without even checking my receipt number the lady said that I am not approved...
At the time when my appointment was it was the same lady who was @ the information desk the first time and she said nothing... Took my letter, did what she had to and said I will get my card in the mail...
I was really surprised that my husband got his green card so quick.. He even responded on the RFI later, missed his fingerprint appointment...But see...
So basiclly you are saying that what I was told @ the USCIS office that I will get the card in the mail is not true...I have to get an approval letter first and then probably I wil lget my card...Why do you have to go to an interview..I thought that there no interviews any more. Did you derive your status from somebody?

Green card and wants to travel

I am a formal asylee and now has a green card. I will like to travel to my country, is it possible?

azaza,

I think that you can but I am not possitive. My concern is that is does say on your GC that you are an asylee and it says what your country of birth is. So I don't know if you will be asked questions @ the customs...I think we should all be able to go to our home countries once we have our GC....

It is possible to travel to moon!. But it is not recommended unless you have aan importnat reason to go back to COP. Please refer to other threads which discussed this problem pretty extensive.

Just double checking

Thanks for your answer.
I am just double checking on what a friend of my just experienced.
After asylee status, he just traveled with his green card to his country of oringin and he told me that he DID NOT encouter any problem.

I beleive it. We talked about possiblities of getting in trouble because of it. Most of the time it will be unnoticed, but what if they'll notice it??????

I'm sorry I don't have the answer to your questions, but I was just impressed at how quickly your husband got approved!!! My timeline is similar to you and your husband's (my ND is dec 1, 2005)! I hope I can hear the good news like your husband!!!

About your case, I hope you are approved like the second IO said. What does your online status says?

MGTgrl,

I was surprises also. His online status shows that his welcome notice was sent to him and i was expecting to see the welcome notice...but there was the actual GC....
My online status currently is:
"On January 3, 2006, we received your response to our request for evidence or information. It is taking between 850 and 900 days for us to process this kind of case. However because preliminary processing was complete, the remaining processing time will be less than the maximum stated in this message. You will receive a written decision on this case."
His was the same and it changes very quick...
