--------- He/she Should be back before the expiry date on AP

--- While Exiting you have to give I-94 only( keep the copy of I-94 both side for your future records)

While coming to US you have to Show AP to Airlines and at POE you have to show AP . if you still have H1B /H4 Valid Sticker in your passport you can also use H1B/H4 to enter US if Principle is not working on EAD and still working on H1B

my AP Experience

Me and my wife both entered US on AP at Washington Dulles
Airport, VA, about 2.5 months ago.
Although I had major documentation with me, all that
was needed was passport and AP, that was all! No problem whatsoever. However, we stayed for about 30-40 minutes in
a special room unil the INS officer verified that AP and passport
were authentic. No questions were asked, very professional, they just did their verification work including computer and phone
retrieval work. Another thing: when you get the AP from INS, they provide additional copy for the transportation official, which we submitted before boarding US-bound plane at Vienna Airport. They in Vienna also did their checking, and held one AP copy (that copy is without photo, I believe). So, please, get all INS AP copies with you. We both got three AP copies each (me and my wife):
two AP copies are identical and with photo ID, one other is without photo, which was held at Vienna before boarding US-bound plane.

AAnother thing on AP stay in home coutnry

I don't think there is any limit on how long you can stay in your home country on AP. There is no such specification on AP. The AP only has the expiration date, and the single/multiple entry specification. So, within these specifications, you can stay as long as you want.

kongoli - thx. for the response. We have received only 2 AP documents each. both have photos on them. Is it necessary to have the AP without photo to travel???

Sould we just give the airline a photocopy of the AP.

AP copies

I don't know why we had three AP copies, maybe this is when there is single entry, maybe this is redundant, I really don't know. As long as all you have received is two copies, that should be just fine. Please, ask others about the number of copies that have gotten.

But I remember that in fact I even did not want to get that copy with me, I thought it was redundant. The Vienna Officer
pointed it out that that copy was for him, because there was a footnote on that copy saying "for the transportation official".
