Depandent Student's N-400 filing Center

My son is staying for more than 3 months in College Dorm and studying in Chicago and I am a resident of NJ.
Whether my son can file his N-400 in NJ, where I will be filing mine, as he is a dependent. I read in one of the posts that this is possible. If yes, can someone tell me under which rule/regulation this is permitted.

Thanks.

A friend of mine did this to his son. He too stays in NJ and the kid is in school at Purdue. He got his citizenship in NJ. I do not have any more details and cannot get anymore as well but for sure he did it. Good luck

College Students

College/University students are generally considered to be residents where their parents live - and not where they attend college. This is how the state universities are able to college "out of state" tuition (which in our state is twice "in state" tuition).

I don't think it would be a problem.

I saw it clearly stated somwhere that a college student can choose either (1) where he is studying or (2) where his parents reside (if he is a dependant only)

This implies that you have both options. Once I find the appropriate link I will post it.
