Delhi Embassy Confirms Police Certificates Required In India From Jan2002.

Guys, its confirmed by New Delhi consulate...We do need PCC!!!!
I just talked to person at New Delhi consulate. It is 9:17 PM PST December 2nd while I type this post.
When I told him that there are rumours in california that we may require PCC from Jan 2002, he cut my sentence in middle & told that they are not the rumours. He said that we "MAY" require PCC from Jan 2002. When asked about "MAY REQUIRE!!!", he said that nothing is fixed yet but they may require it & they are working on posting it on the web site.
Next question I asked : From where I need to get it ?? Will a PCC issued by Indian embassay in SFO would serve ?? He said NO. They need "only" something issued by local police office in India.(It got me surprised!!)
Next question from me : I lived in Moradabad(town 3 hours from Delhi) but worked in Bangalore(same place from where my passport was issued!!) before coming to US..From where should I get the PCC ?? Answer : Get it from Moradabad.. He told that they will post the details regarding PCC requirements on web site soon & suggetsed to start working on arranging it right away...
The last question I asked : For my wife, she lived in Hardwar but worked in Delhi & her passport was issued from Delhi itself!!) from where she should arrange the PCC. Answer : Hardwar.
He suggested me to keep on checking the web site to get more details on it in future.
At last conclusion : We are screwed. I am rushing my parents & in-laws to arrange these docs for us right away.

PS : I am surprised that the person at New Delhi consulte clearly specified that they would not accept any PCC issued by indian embassay abroad...but I have been reading it on this thread that we need one PCC from Indian embassay in US...Can somebody answer it OR get it clearified when he/she calls consulate ???

PCC...at this moment most of the people seem to be confused about PCC.
Getting PCC from the Indian consulate should be the same as they send the documents to indian authorities only and thats the reason they take 30-45 days .
I guess taking PCC from Indian consulate should not be a bad idea ..if we get by Jan\'2002 ..Atleast something is better than nothing.
getting from Local Police station Indian is a herculian task..If you tell the m that you need PCC for GC..well then sky is the limit for money they are going to ask...
Hope You can post info after your parents/in-laws have takled to local Police in delhi as what they want and where does one get in delhi or anywhere else and whom to contact.

PCC required from Jan 2002.
Guys I had posted earlier that Delhi Embassy needs a PPC from Jan 2002. I made a followup call yesterday night EST.
The guy confiirmed that it is required. I confirmed from him that I am EB2 and stayed only in India and US. He says you need it.
I also spoke to my lawyer last week and she told me she will get back to me. This morning she confirmed that it is required now. It needs to arranged preferrably from the Passport office)as they can give a global picture) rather than the local police station.
Getting a PCC from the Embassy here in the USA is same as getting it from the passport office as they request it in turn from Passport office in India.
My interview is scheduled for Jan 2002. I will talk to the Indian Embassy in NY today and find out the exact details of time etc.
For all those who have been trying to RUN AWAY FROM THE HARSH REALITY. Wake up and arrange it ASAP.
Maybe the US Embassy in India will be a bit lenient in the first few weeks. But I am sure this is going to become a permanent fixture now.
