I am new here as a member, but has been reading most of the threads. I have a couple of things to ask and gaugue your opinions.

I recently got stamped for my green card as of two weeks ago. Got the white card as well. Here are my questions:

1) I know that when I was still an asylee, one cannot travel to one's original country. But now that I am a permanent resident and my status has changed can I go? I know it's been discussed here before, and you will be allowed in extreme situations, but I think only when you're still under asylee status.

2) I was born in an african country and so was my father when that country was still a british colony. hence were were given british passports. But this passport clearly states BRITISH OVERSEAS CITIZEN, and we do not have right of abode in the UK. In other words this passport was good for travel only. Can I use this passport now to travel and return to the US with my green card eventhough that's not the citizenship of country that i applied my asylum under? When one gets the plastic green card and upon return to US, and whenit is scaned, will it show all relative info ot just to make sure that itis not a fake card? I am desperaee to travel and cannot wait for the travel document to arrive and I guessing here by February (I applied in August)

As long as you have a valid passport, you are fine. You were not clear on where you are planning to go? Are you going to the country against which you sought asylum? if this is the case, the bottom line is that it depends. Some people faced troubles when they did that; whereas, others did it in a smooth way. It is your call and you are taking a chance by depending on your luck with the immigration bozos.

Ah, yet another "can asylee/LPR go home?" question :)
Jack please do not censor what people want to bring to this forum. Anyone can ask anything they want to ask. Every topic is a fair topic. I just do not like to tell people what to discuss in this forum and what not. Thanks and please accept my challenge to you.

Thank you Shamshon.

So I take it that it does not matter what passport it is as long as it is valid. And since I'm a LPR it's no longer and issue.

I plan on traveling to Europe and/or Central/South America. Anywhere actually, but country of origin.

yes, look back at some threads which state that it is ok to travel with the passport of the country against which you sought asylum. Some members think it is not a good idea but then in some situations, some countries do not accept the RTD and you need to have a country's passport! Good luck
