Date constraints? - H1B Visa Interview and Entry into U.S

Hello:

I currently live outside the U.S. (Canadian Permanent Resident) and I recently received my H1B approval notice to work as a Faculty member in New York.

My work permit starts only on September 1, 2002 (because of University Policy and Collective Bargaining agreement with the Union). I have scheduled an appointment for July 11 (yes, tomorrow!) and a friend advised me that there might be some time constraints (My school and lawyer are not aware of any for Visa Interview).

--------------------

I was wondering if there are any time constraints regarding the date I can fix an appointment with the U.S Embassy (Vancouver in my case) to get the Visa and actual entry into U.S. using the H1B Visa.

--------------------

Even though I am scheduled to start work in September 1, I would like to be in New York in the first week of August to begin the process of settling down both professionally (prepare for courses I will be teaching, set up on research) and personally (find a place, apply for SIN etc).

I would really appreciate your response... Thank You in advance for your time,

Nanda

You can get the visa as early as 6 months before start date. However you will get only 10 days before the start date of I797 as validity start date in your visa stamp.
