This is my take....
In my case, though my base salary LC. The letter I will get from my employers will state this higher number as my compensation.
This is what I feel on the salary issue:
1. There is a good possibility that the Consulate will not check the salary on your employement letter with LC. But in the event it does, we have a problem.
2. I am not sure about the role the minimum salary plays. Samind\'s point appears to be logical, but how does the consulate know what is the minimum salary for your qualification and job description ? Rather than making those efforts, its easier for them to ask for more documentation from you and delaying your case.
The bottom line, based on my research: If you can\'t get a letter from your employers stating that your "compensation" is X (where X >LC) you are taking a risk. How big is that risk ? Probably not too much, as we haven\'t heard as rejections so far. BUT, the salary reductions are a relatively recent phenomenon and % of folks going for CP has risen only recently. So we may not had too big a sample with lower salary and CP.
Again this is my view, based on my "risk averseness", some of you may find the risk too minimal to matter.
