Current Economic Situation: Getting job in US from Canada

I have been seriously trying to get a job in this market both in US and Canada. Since I am in Toronto, lot of US Companies don't want to deal with Canadian residing in Toronto and TN visa at this stage. It wasn't like this before.

Do you think I have better chance just to move to NY and apply for work in US and then go for TN Visa? US -> TN Visa -> US seems better option than Canada -> TN Visa -> US.

Anyone has any suggestions?

As a Canadian you can stay in US for 6 months. Once I am in NY I can apply and go for few face to face interview. Lot of employers don't want to deal with someone out of local area.

Once the face to face interview is success then I can just ask the employer to provide me with simple offer letter (no this is not sponsorship) and go get TN at the POE.

Popular misconception, but not quite true.
As a foreigner, you can request entry into US for 6 months. As a Cdn you may do so without issuance of a Visa or I-94.

But in either case, you (a) need to satisfy the CBP that you are going for tourist purposes, (b) you need to continually mantain your Cdn residential ties (usually including a job), and (c) you need to demonstrate how you will support yourself during your visit.

So 'moving to NY and looking for work' and 'visiting NY on vacation' are not the same. The former will get you denied entry and a notation on your record. So will lying at the border about your intentions.

If they ever found you were doing that - going to live in NY to interview for jobs - you could be in trouble.

It may be harder to get interviews not because of the TN or Canadian thing but because the economy is just pretty rough right now.

get the NY address/phone number and pretend as you are physically in NY. once interview schedule then visit NY, attend interview and leave.

PS: I said pretend that you are in NY.(if someone clearly asks your location then of course you can't lie for sure). But usually when they see your number in their caller ID they wont' ask

This guy supposedly has a DV interview, so let's not waste any time talking about how he can get TN: he cannot.
