Hello, everybody,

I asked the associate director of my university I-center to call CIS. He called this afternoon. I checked case status a couple of minutes ago and found the both the I-140 and 485 (including my husband and daughter) have been approved.

I really appreciate all the help and encouragement from all of you.

Here is my qualifications:
Ph.D
20 or so journal articles, 1 book
110 citations when submitted, one news report about my work
5 recommendation letters from people I am familiar with
reviewed two papers and chaired a couple sections in international meetings
1 NSF grant and a few society grants
No memberships (I have a few who is who but I decided not to use them).

Good Luck and Thank You

Iris

We submitted I-140 in Oct 2003 and I-485 in Dcember 2003. I had expected a straight approval in October 2004. However the case was stucked by name check. We sent request for result of name check a couple of month ago. It appeared that the result was just returned.

Because of this delay, unknown length of name checking and funding situation, I have almost given up the case. I had planned to take a new job and restart the whole process again. The GC card came just in time because I think I will have trouble transferring my H1B visa.

is there certain type of name that takes longer to check ?
For example, my last name is the most common one is my home nation...
My first name is also one of the popular ones..
Would it take longer for my name to be checked ?

I think common names are the main cause for delayed name checks. God luck, you may get lucky!
