Friends,

Finally I received the courtesy copy of approval notices from INS for me, my wife and my son.

I want to share my experience with IIO that may help at least some of us who is waiting so long for approval.

Till two weeks back I was in the same frustrating mood of most of our friends, Checking AVM ( bored about hearing of 999 ... days message ) and silently reading forum messages etc. Out of frustration on September 4th I called IIO, waited 2 hours to get connected and then finally one officer came online. I should call him as my life saver. He politely asked what can I do for you, sir. I asked the routine question "I want to know the status of my I-485 status".

As usual he took my WAC number and kept me on hold. After 5 minutes of waiting he informed me that my case ( or fingerprints ) not "scanned" ( I don't know what it means in their terms) till now and he promised he is going to transfer my case to different department. He apologized for the inconvenience.

Miraculously after one week my AVM updated with fingerprints received on so and so date message and after another one week I got notice of approval.

The IIO officer who handled my phone call did something and wiped of my frustration and other problems. So definitely he is my life saver. Hoping you are going to get one of such life saver when you call IIO.

Hello waiters !!

It is my turn to share the happy news. I got a call from the lawyer yesterday telling me that they have received the approval letter for my I-485. Went to INS San Francisco and got stamped this morning. Here are my details.

I-485 WAC-01-178-XXXXX
Priority date 1999
RD Apr 10, 2001
ND May 8, 2001
INS slowdown due to 9/11 anthrax and terrorist attacks
FP 2/8/2002 - after 3 inquries (they were changing the fp contractor and could not inquiry until Jan 2002)
again more waiting with no AVM updates
past the JIT report in May 2002
Immediately contacted the senator Feinstein and congressman
senator did not reply - but congressman did - they sent emails to INS - INS issued an RFE on Aug 8th.
Attorney was laid off from the firm - waited for another attorney to take my case- lost another month there.
RFE replied on Aug 30th
INS acknowledged the receipt for RFE on Sep 5th
INS approved the case on Sep 13th
Attorney and myself got copies on Sep 18th
Got stamped Sep 19th in SFO - stamping took less than 2 hours - from 9:30 - 11:15 am very few people.

Interestingly enough - AVM has not changed since RFE update - still playing 'we received your RFE - it is taking 140-160 days ...'
Did not get my second EAD - they issued an RFE for the EAD on Sep 11.

I got my GC Approval in Mail and did Passport stamping today at San Jose Center.

pcee & rupnet handle dkalapa.
Here's my long story.
GC Applied in May, returned by INS because of incorrect amount in sept, re-applied in Sept




RFE(W2,Employment) on August 13th replied on August 26th.

AD 9/13(AVM Still says RFE received)

Changed jobs with in 6 monts of filing GC(Company shutdown and later acquistion)

It took approx. 10-11 Months for 485 processing.

Waiting for actual notice to receive. Planning to go SJ for stamping with Courtesy Copy at the earliest. Will share stamping experience.

As I was having age out problem for my daughter, I faxed a letter to INS every week. I spoke to INS officer and he told me to fax every week till I get the respond. No RFE.

AVM says approved on Sept 26, 2002

Yes, the AVM says its been approved on Sept 26, 2002.
I checked last night after almost ten days and came to know that it has been approved. Then checked for my wife, her case is also approved.

Now waiting for the approval notices, will keep every one posted.

Finally, it's my turn to share the good news with you all. My case was approved on September 26, 2002 as per AVM. I checked the status online also and it's in sync with AVM.

I am really excited and relieved to listen the magic words "... Approved". I verified the status 5 times both online and AVM, just to make sure that I wasn't out of my mind .
I will go for stamping as soon as I receive the approval letter.
