Crossing the US border while visa pending

My husband and I live temporarily in Mexico. I am a Canadian citizen and my husband is a US citizen. We plan to move to the US within 2 years. My husband will be filing a I-130 about 8 months before we move. Instead of consular processing in Mexico, I want to do it in Montreal, Canada. In order to get to Canada, we would be driving from Mexico to Canada. Is it possible to cross the US/Mex border and US/Can border all before my green card is issued? Is there a special form for travel that I would need? Thanks

Of course you can enter the US for a visit as a Canadian citizen. As always, there is a chance they will deny you entry, and potentially more so in your case since you will have a pending or approved petition; but I think the chance is pretty low.

Would I tell the US border people we are on our way to Canada for consular processing?
