Hi,
I commited Public Intoxication offence in the US 2 years ago and I appeared in court and fined 100 USD. I rentered the US one year after that on with another visa. Now, I'm going to apply for visitor visa to Canada. Will I be denied based on criminal history? I heard that if the some time passed since I was convicted and it was my only offence I should be OK? anybody has knowledge about this situation?

hi ..I am in similar situation committed dui in Us and now planning to visit canada , i am planning to drive to the border and apply for temporary visa at port of entry. My crime was in 2002 and my probation ended in 2005 and to be considered rehabilitated i need to wait till 2010 , i spoke to a lawyer and she said i have a 50/50 chance of getting a temporary visa granted if I can convince the officer at the port of entry. I ma goin to take that chance, you guys have any sugessions? thanks!

Indian with GC...Triple, what do you think are my chances? From what it says on some websites is that temporary visa is given in extreme cases, but this lawyer i consulted said i have 50/50 chance if i can show proof that i will return and yes i am married. My wife will be here and i am the only person on the trip.

Hi,
I am new to this forum, wanted to see if their is anyone who can share their experience applying for temporary visitor visa at the port of entry. I am planning to a attend a wedding and I was wondering if I need a wedding invitation at the Entry point, or any other details. Also, how long is this visa given for? does it depend on my duration of stay or min 6 months? Thanks in advance for all your support!!

Triple, Thanks!
I was talking to a lawyer and he said its good to go to a POE that is nicer, he did not tell me which one. In your experience, do you think their is one POE were the atmosphere is more friendly then another? and I think you must become a moderator, what do you think :)

The best POEs in my opinion are:-

Air = Pearson International Airport
Land = Blue Water Bridge

Thanks for the compliment but I am not interested in becoming a moderator.

Triple, Thanks!

Understandable

Triple,
I understand if you don't want do that job with a title "moderator" with a spagatti load of strings attached to it :)
Anyways, here is my question , I had previously applied for canadian residency and got denied for having dui, this was before my GC .Now at the POE knowing that I am inadmissible into canada, can i drive upto the Customs and show my green card and hope they don't have information about my arrest (wishful thinking) and let me cross the border or I should volunteer myself to stand in line to talk to a Visa officer?

My personal opinion is never volunteer and never lie. So if you are asked at the POE about your DUI, tell them the honest truth. If not asked, do not volunteer. Good luck!!!
