Hi All,

Any inputs on whether or not I could make it for EB1-OR and EB2-NIW based on my credentials. Below are the criteria which I would like to claim for.

1. Receipt of major prizes or awards
a) American Urological Association Foundation Research Scholar Award (1
of 5 Ph.D’s who received this award in an year).
b) Institutional Research Excellence Award (Though this is an institutional
award the award was given after a peer-review of ~70 abstracts)
c) Society for Basic Urologic Research Travel Award (I got one awarded
from 125 abstracts)
d) AUA Travel Award (Awarded by American Urological Association for
investigators who are approved for at least one year of funding
through any AUA Foundation grant program. But, getting funded
from AUA foundation itself is competitive)

2. Membership in associations

Sigma Xi Full Membership
Society for Basic Urologic Research: Active Member
American Association for Cancer Research – Associate Member

3. Authorship of scholarly books/articles

a) Peer-reviewed research articles
8, 4-first, 2-second, 1-fourth, 1-fifth author; one first author in review
b) Book article
Fourth author in a book article (Can provide letter from editor-in-chief
indicating that they select its contributors based on expertise and
international recognition in one or many of the subject area)
c) Review of articles - reviewed 2
d) Citations – 30 out of loop
e) Recommendation letters - 6

4. Original scientific or scholarly research contributions to the academic field.
Publications - 8
Citations – 30 out of loop
Recommendation letters - 6

5. Published material in professional publications written by others about my
work in the academic field.
Can provide citation list for my publications by highlighting my name in
some of the article.

6. For the international recognition

a) journals I published has international circulation, # of copies
printed/year
b) international significance of annual meetings that I attended.
c) Pie chart of the country wise citations of my articles


6. Evidence to show research is of intrinsic merit:
will take some statistics on prostate cancer from NIH website to support
this

1(a) counts, I think. Is this awarded for students or fresh PhDs? Still depends on how you present it. 1(b) through 1(d) don't count, sorry.

2. Unfortunately, none of these counts.

3 & 4 counts.

5. You cannot claim citations as something written by others about you - unless it is very exhaustively about you and your work. Besides, you are already claiming citations for "original contributions".

6. Is this for NIW?

So, to sum up, you can still apply for both EB1-OR (two criteria + employer sponsorship) and EB2-NIW but not for EB1-EA.

1. Yes, I agree with what you say, travel awards are not of that outstanding
AUA Research Scholar Award is given for MD's and PhD's for postdoctoral research. I can have the printout of news letter (both from AUA and the University) which indicates the statistics of funding

3&4. Good to know that I can claim these

5. If I cant claim citations for something written by other about me. Can I do it this way by providing for each citation the below...a) something about the journal b) Issues, impact factor, circulation, c) highlighting my name, work in the article....it is really something which others have used for or to interpret their work, and also have mentioned my name in the articles.

Hi Kasina,

Why would you want to do a EB1-EA when your employer is willing to sponsor you for an EB1-OR?

Typically, citations are used to claim original contribution and not for something written about the applicant. But you have a very good chance without claiming this third criterion.

Is this documentation enough to file for EB1-EA, OR and EB2-NIW

Dear All,

My documentation is now ready to go and the things I would like to claim are

AWARDS

1.Research Scholar Award by American Urological Association.

1a) Statistics: Average of 5 awards given to Ph.D’s (Table showing the
# of awards for 2007, 2008, 2009); 1 out of 6 Ph.D’s who received
the award for 2008-2010 period

1b) Documentation: Award letter from AUA
News letters from AUA and University which indicates
the Award

1c) Letter from funding agency research office higher officials indicating
the importance, significance, and criteria used for selecting the
outstanding scholars (pending).

2. Outstanding Abstract Presentation Award
At a joint meeting of both American and European society for basic
urology research, with abstracts presented both from USA and Europe,
my abstract has been selected as one of the outstanding abstract
presentation award.
Documentation: 2a) Award letter
2b) letter from chair of the organizing committee stating
the importance, # of attendees, for the meeting and
also the criteria for selection of best abstract
presentation awards

AUTHORSHIP OF SCHOLARLY ARTICLES/BOOKS

Research articles: 8
Book articles: 1

ORIGINAL CONTRIBUTIONS
Letters: 1 from mentor
1 independent, but within the university
3 independent (US, UK, Barcelona)

Citations: Table showing the country wise citations for each of my article (Total of 32)


JUDGE OF OTHERS WORK

Reviewed: 5, have the request emails, and the acknowledgment emails after review
Denied: 2, I have declined the request for review for two articles, but I still have the email invitations

Editorial Board: It may take a month more for my name to be added to the editorial board of the 3 journals (Should I wait until I get added?)

If I were you, I would skip all the "travel awards" "Xi Phi" stuff and FOCUS on Publications, AUA Awards, Judge. Put all the bells and whistles in the CV because it might hurt the application if presented as evidence. I might add, as a personal opinion, that the bar on NIW is higher than on EB1-B. If it is your own $, then apply for EB1-B. If this is paid for and you need to move to a different position in the near future, apply for NIW/Both.
 
How much do you think your credential evaluation will cost you?
I also want to do mine just in case a potential employer wants to hire me or I get into a university here.

Doctalk2, as you said I’ll concentrate more on awards, publications and review.
I would like to go for EB1-B through university and for EB1-A and NIW by my own $. Does anyone has any experience with Zhang & Zhang Associates.
Smirk, I have done my credentials evaluated by World Education Services (wes.org), it costs around $150.00
