CP processing question

Hi Gurus,

My I-140 got approved on May 12th and I have elected for CP option. I am confused as to what will happen next. I tried reading thorugh this forum but still am not clear. People mention that approved I-140 will be sent to NVC and some say I-797 will be sent to NVC. Do I have to wait for one more approval of I-797 from Veromont. Can someone clarify or point me to a proper source of information?

Also if I call NVC in 2-3 weeks what receipt number should I use I-140 or I-797 to check status.?

Last question who will NVC send any information to to me or to my lawyer or employer.

Thanks a lot for your time and insight.

{I-140 is the name of the process of Immigrant Visa petition. Form I-797
is the form number on which they intimate the approval.}

Also if I call NVC in 2-3 weeks what receipt number should I use I-140 or I-797 to check status.?

{Once you receive the I-140 approval or a copy of it from your Attorney
you will find the Number on it . Based on the service center it starts
with letters LIN, EAC .....etc. This is the number you would use to
enquire the status}

Last question who will NVC send any information to to me or to my lawyer or employer.

{NVC corresponds with the Attorney on record, who would have dealt
with your I-140 process}

Thanks a lot for your time and insight.

Hi kartoos,
I am no CP Guru - but here is my 2 cents. If you need all the steps listed in one glance, Cptracker.com is a good place. I have printed out an empty record for myself and i can easily find out where I am in the process, compare with someone else;s timeline etc

Thanks,
Dilbert

I-140

Thanks a lot for your response guys. One more question is it better to have an attorney mentioned on DS-3032 or do it self.

Thanks

Depends if you or your co. is already paying for the same, might as well. Only thing is that you will have to be on top of the attorney to get things done.
